Singapore: Asian Country Reports 1st Case of Zika Virus, Health Officials Say
The Ministry of Health and National Environment Agency said the 48-year-old male patient traveled to Brazil from March 27 to May 7. He is reportedly in isolation and is set to begin treatment.
This is the first imported case of Zika virus to Singapore. The patient was transferred to an isolation unit in an attempt try to control the spread of this disease which is transmitted by mosquitoes.
Zika is already found in more than 24 countries in the Americas and the World Health Organization (WHO) says the virus is likely to end up in almost every country in the Americas.
