Quit Hoarding Negative Feelings So You Can Be Successful 

I was fortunate to be a real strong believer in the power of a positive attitude ever since I was a really little kid. I mean, I started my first business when I was only 9 years old (selling Mexican pottery that a truck driving neighbor would bring back from South of the border). But that is a story for another day.

Then, I was crushed by a 3,000 pound Chevy Malibu when I was a teenager. I woke up in ICU after hours of surgery. I was blind, had massive internal bleeding, a tracheotomy, on a ventilator, a punctured lung, a broken back, a broken hip, and 5 broken ribs, and severe burns on my back. But I used my positive attitude to bounce back and play football within 2 years and for many years afterwards.

I learned Spanish simply by reading even though I grew up in a small town where nobody spoke Spanish. I never took a class, but I speak it fluently. In fact, people thought I was crazy and laughed when I told them that I could do it that way. I was positive that I could and I did it.

By the time I was in my mid-30’s I owned a multi-million dollar business and I ended up traveling the world. I don’t say this to brag. In fact, I only hope that my story inspires someone (just one person would be enough) who is down on his or her luck. Someone who feels like things are not going just right, someone who feels like he or she is spinning their wheels, or just searching for an answer.

The answer is let go. Understand that you cannot control everything. Control the things you can, but let go of all the negativity in your life, all the worry, all the pain, all the regret, all the negative stuff that you have been hoarding but didn’t know you were hoarding.

Here is a wake up call for you. You may be a hoarder of negative feelings. If you are, you don’t really have room for positive feelings. And only positive feelings will attract to you the things, people, events, money, and life that you want and desire.

I learned the importance of having a positive attitude from some great men and women including my father, the late Reverend Von Deron Irvin. My love an appreciation for this great man can hardly be expressed in words.

Does Positive Thinking Still Work?

From the time I was a little kid growing up in the rural south, I have heard about the importance of having and keeping a positive attitude. This is called positive thinking.

Everybody, everywhere is touched by stress. It doesn’t matter how much money you have, where you live, where you work, your type of job, your pay rate, your marital status, or any other factors in your life, stress exists for everybody. But does does positive thinking help make things better or only seem better?

Many people have credited the writings of Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, Napoleon Hill, and W. Clement Stone with helping them to become successful and getting through bad circumstances.

When Dr. Peale was asked if positive thinking works all the time, he stated unequivocally, “Yes.”

Famous people throughout history have been quoted as believing in better results through positive thinking.

“Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits. Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.” ― Mahatma Gandhi

Donald Trump is quoted as having said that his father knew Dr. Peale and that “The Power Of Positive Thinking” has had a positive effect on his life and career. The Don takes it even farther by explaining that action and effort are also needed for success.

“Get going. Move forward. Aim High. Plan a takeoff. Don’t just sit on the runway and hope someone will come along and push the airplane. It simply won’t happen. Change your attitude and gain some altitude. Believe me, you’ll love it up here.” ― Donald Trump

More About Positive Thinking

I consider myself very fortunate to have read the “The Power Of Positive Thinking” written by Dr. Peale, “Success Through A Positive Attitude” written by W. Clement Stone and Napoleon Hill, and “Think And Grow Rich” written by Napoleon Hill at a very young age. I have continued to read these books through my life.

 

Positive Thinking is not just sitting around doing nothing and expecting great things to happen. And it is not about being aPollyanna – overly optimistic person. It is about being a realist with a positive attitude and a positive outlook.

A winning attitude – It takes hard work and preparation in order to win even with positive thinking.

Having a positive attitude has help me to be successful and happy. And I truly believe that Positive Thinking still works.

Some people think that positive thinking involves just sitting around and hoping. Not surprisingly, these same people soon lose their belief in positive thinking. Positive thinking helps you do everything better.

The key word here is do. It takes action for anything to happen.

I was fortunate to learn at a very early age from some great minds all about positive thinking, but it took me a long time to figure out that hoarding negative feelings leave little space for positive feelings. In fact, I now believe that each negative feeling takes so much space that you need at least 10 positive thoughts to counter the negativity caused by it. So, the solution is to clean out all of those negative feelings and feel you mind and body with positive thoughts.
